Hello friends and fellow IWSGers!
As always, a big thank you to the amazing Alex Cavanaugh for bringing about this wonderful support group! And thanks to our hosts for the month!
This post will be a little different today. I'm on vacation on the beautiful Maine coast and I've put aside anything writing or querying or publishing related for the week. So, with that in mind, I guess you could say that I'm doing just fine.
Sure, I've received some query rejections, but I'm still hopeful.
And I'm super excited for Pitch Wars coming up in a couple of weeks. I'm really, really hoping that there will be a mentor who falls in love with my MS and wants to pick mine to work with. Keeping my fingers crossed!
So, that's it for me. How are you doing this month?
Lucky girl--Maine is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is! I think I'm in love...
DeleteEnjoy your vacation and good luck with Pitch Wars!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex! :)
DeleteHope you're having a nice break! Good luck with Pitch Wars. The one time I took part was a blast.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm really hoping I'm chosen. :)
DeleteYeh for vacation! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Pitch Wars!
Thanks! Vacations are the best. Not sure I want to go home. :)
DeleteYou'll totally find a mentor. Can't wait to hear how you rock it!
ReplyDeleteLol. I hope you're right! :)
DeleteNice! I've never been to Maine, but we just returned from Michigan. I wish we had time to stop by Mackinac Island:) I wish you well in Pitch Wars. I entered last year with an MG mystery and made it into the alternate round. Not many agents stopped by, so I think that's why they did away with the alt. pick this year. Hopefully you'll find a great writer friend and get that MS in shape! I'm still friends with my mentor from last fall and we are beta readers now for each other's MG manuscripts!
ReplyDeleteAnd I've never been to Michigan! That's awesome that you made it into the alternate round last year! I was a little disappointed they did away with it, but good news is they have more mentors this year to make up for it. Here's hoping I make it in! :)
DeleteHope you're having an amazing vacation! And I'm crossing my fingers for you that you find an awesome YA mentor! Not sure if they are looking for the ms you'll enter, but my former mentor NK Traver is pretty awesome. And Sarah Glenn Marsh I know is looking for YA romance (may be historical, just check her out though!).
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'll check her out and see if she's interested in YA contemporary. Thanks for the heads up! :)
DeleteEnjoy your vacation! And yay for the PitchWars! Best of luck :D
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteEnjoy your vacation and don't let silly rejections throw you. The best have often had many rejections and then bingo! Congrats to Pitchwars
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah, the rejections can totally get you down, but I'm trying to stay positive. I keep hoping this novel will be "The One." We'll see... :)
DeleteRejections? Congratulations, you now have documentary proof that you are a Real Writer. I envy you being able to visit Maine. My father's family came from there and he and my mom made a trip many years ago to trace his family roots.

It's absolutely gorgeous here in Maine! I envy all my writer friends who get to see all this beauty all the time! ;) And you're so right, the rejections are just the stripes that make us who we are—writers.
DeleteWe're heading up to Wisconsin next week, so I'm not as jealous as I normally would have been. Glad you could set your writing aside and enjoy the scenery. I usually take my writing stuff with me, but I never get a chance to do anything with it.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Wisconsin—that's another place I've never been! Yeah, I usually take everything writing related with me too. In fact, I have my laptop and my documents but I refuse to open them this trip. My poor kids complain enough already about me being on the computer so much that I don't want to give them anything else to complain about! Lol. :)
DeleteHopefully there is an acceptance in there soon. Enjoy what is left to your vacation. It sounds like a place that will inspire tons of writing. Good luck with pitch wars too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It is definitely an inspiring place—just no time to write! :)
DeleteEnjoy your time in Maine! That's one part of the country I'd really like to get to. Hang in there with the queries. Rejections are just proof that you're putting your work out there (some writers don't ever do that). And best of luck with Pitch Wars! I entered last year and learned a ton.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenni! And you make a good point—keep those rejections coming then! :) I really hope I make it into Pitch Wars! We'll see...
DeleteI just released my second book in late July.
ReplyDeleteI'm riding the new pub high right now. LOL
IWSG #119 until Alex culls the list again
Congrats! That's so exciting! I imagine you are on quite a high right now. Great to see someone else who's doing fine! :)
DeleteI see stuff about Pitch Wars on Twitter all the time...some of my fellow Aladdin M!x authors have been mentors, I think? I don't know much about it, though. Sounds like lots of authors have gotten deals out of it.
ReplyDeleteYes! It's proven to be very successful either directly or indirectly to many writers seeking an agent. And yeah, you probably know lots of the authors who are mentoring—I know a few myself. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
DeleteI'm finally settling back down now that the book is published so I'm good too. Enjoy your vacation. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's right! I've seen your book around the blogosphere! Congrats!! Glad to see you're doing just fine as well. :)
DeleteHappy vacation time, and good job with staying hopeful! I'm hoping for you too!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's not always easy to do, but at least for this week, I'm feeling good about everything. Although, it could change next week! Lol. :)
DeleteAugust is always an interesting month for me.
ReplyDeleteMaine is gorgeous!! ENJOY and relax and keep querying out of your mind :) keeping everything crossed for Pitch Wars! <3
