What's Up Wednesday & An Announcement

 Sooo...

I've been a bit of a lame blogger lately. I apologize if I haven't visited your blog in a while, I will try to remedy that ASAP!! With summer coming and my current manuscript sucking my spare time, I find myself less on the blogging scene. But, I am glad that I have WUW to keep me accountable with my blogging, writing, and reading.

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop created by sisters Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk to help writers connect on this writing journey.

WHAT I'M READING
I am currently reading Insurgent, the second book in Veronica Roth's Divergent series. I seriously love these books and the world she created. I find myself saying out loud, "That was a good line. A really good line." I love it when a writer makes me think like that!

WHAT I'M WRITING
I crossed genre's and am working on the first draft of my own Divergent series. Just kidding. But it is a YA dystopian novel (with romantic elements--of course!) Even though I'm at 70,000 words, I still have a long way to go to get it in the right shape.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
Truthfully? The Divergent series. I love it when a book draws me in and I'm lost in the story. When I stay up too late at night because I can't put it down. That's what Veronica's books have done to me, and I feel inspired because that's the kind of writer I want to be. I don't just want to write a good story. I want to write a story that pulls the reader in and makes them think about it long after the last page is read. It's an art. It's a talent, and I'm struggling to find it, develop it, and strap it to my back.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Well, I know what I haven't been doing...Sleeping! I find myself to be most productive in my writing AFTER the kids are asleep, in between the hours of 9:00 pm -1:00 am. I love having a few interrupted hours where it is just me, my laptop, my music, my characters, and my ideas (it's a nighttime party!) Although, I have been known to nod off from time to time, but then again, a little power nap never hurts!

Also, I'm excited to announce that the amazing Lori Maclaughlin nominated me for a Liebster Award! Hoo-Rah!! Be sure to stop back on Friday where I post all the details, answer some questions about myself, and nominate a few others. Hmm, will you be one of them...

Have a wonderful week! See you Friday! :)

  2. I get obsessed by mannies too. Especially when I hit the last quarter of the book. It's as hard to stop writing the end as it is to stop reading until the end. But that's all right, we're writers, right? Writing is what we have to do!

  3. That's how I felt about the Legend series. I kept thinking please, please, please let me figure out how to make stories that draw people in like this someday. Good luck getting it all done!

  4. Congrats on your award. Sometimes we just need a little time away from blogging. I know life can get chaotic sometimes! I'm having one of those crazy days myself. Glad to see you blogging!

  5. Yay for your award! I hope you enjoy the rest of the Divergent series. It's one of my favorites!

  6. I have to read the Divergent series! I keep meaning to, and just haven't gotten there yet. Enjoy the inspiration you're feeling, though, and the obsession with your MS - it's a great place to be in as a writer :)

  7. I haven't read the Divergent series, but I've heard a lot of great things about it enough for me to want to read them. Dystopian is fun! I have a book started centered around that theme, although it's not YA.

Congrats on your award and good luck with your manuscript! :)

  9. I'm a nighttime writer too. That's when I'm most creative, and like you, I need to take advantage of the quiet. I love how you put this: "I don't just want to write a good story. I want to write a story that pulls the reader in and makes them think about it long after the last page is read." That's my goal too. Best of luck on your dystopian WIP this week! :)

  10. You know, DIVERGENT is the book that actually got me writing. I'd thought about giving writing a try for some time, but never really did it. Something about that book just gave me the push I needed to sit my butt down and write. So I can totally see how that's inspiring you right now. 70,000 words is pretty darn great! I think it would be wonderful to write books, like you say, that make people think after they've turned that last page. Have a wonderful week, Kristin!

  11. I work better at night, too. I guess I've always been a night owl.

  12. I know about nodding off! Just about every night when I'm rocking my son to sleep, I go out too! It's frustrating b/c then I'm all sleepy and it's hard to pull myself out of it. And you go on 70k, that's fantastic!

  13. Aloha!

I literally laughed out loud (someone should really come up with an acronym for that) when I read that you sometimes nod off... I'm also a night-time (party for one) writer and once I woke up, discovered I'd written 20 (YES!!!) pages and then was disappointed when I realized I'd written 20 pages of the letter "L" :)

    True story :)

    Happy writing!!

  14. You're doing all the good. Go, go, go!

And I know what you mean about the blogging. I'm mucho grateful for all the friends who promo-ed for me and helped me launch my debut, but heck, I'm plum worn out! I'm looking forward to some down time. ;)

  16. Good for you on your Liebster award. I know when I am into a book I have fallen asleep and the book fell right on my head (big book). Good for you that you can find the time to write with a hectic life

  17. I've had a hard time keeping up with the blogosphere myself lately. I don't even have that many good excuses for it!

And let me guess...you like the Divergent series? ;) I've never read it, but I have had the first book in my TBR pile for a long time now. (Must read it one of these days!) Good luck writing your own YA dystopian! :)
