What's Up Wednesday

I recently joined a weekly blog hop created by sisters Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk to help writers connect on this writing journey. I thought What's Up Wednesday would be a good way for me to review my progress during the week and stay motivated to read and write (especially now that I have some accountability!)

So, here goes...

WHAT I'M READING
I'm almost done reading Killing Ruby Rose, the debut novel by Jessie Humphries. I love the main character, Ruby Rose, and her saucy personality. I've laughed out loud several times because she is just so dang funny, and this is a YA Contemporary thriller! Jessie has done a great job of weaving in the danger, romance, and teenage humor.

WHAT I'M WRITING
I am neck-deep in my YA dystopian novel (part one of a Trilogy). I told my hubs I only wanted two things for Mother's Day -- a clean house and time to write. Thankfully, he let me do that most of the day on Saturday while he and the boys mopped the floor. Win win!!

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
My children. I just want to create something they would be excited to read. I want them to think, "I have the coolest mom, ever." So I'm taking it easy on the romance and leaning more towards exciting elements and a fast-paced plot. We'll see what happens.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Oh, boy. Where to begin...I have baseball games coming out the ying yang. We are in our final week of regular season baseball before playoffs begin, and I am about to vomit baseballs. If I have to sit and watch another baseball game, I might scream. Literally. Unfortunately, we've had a game every night this week and will continue to have one every night except Friday. Ahhh! Can't wait for the season to be over!

Also, my little man is turning 5 and wants a Frozen party. If you've checked out my blog at all, you might have noticed I have a page dedicated to Parties. I LOVE planning and throwing parties, so I've got to get crackin' on this Frozen bash. I'll keep you updated on how it turns out.

Mostly, I'm ready for school to be over. I'm tired of driving kids back and forth to school, I'm sick of the homework and projects, and I'm done with baseball! (Did I mention that already?)

Hope you're having a good week! What are you up to?

  1. Hmm, something tells me you're tired of baseball…. :)

And who need breakfast in bed for Mother's Day, right? :)

Sounds like the perfect mother's day for a writer.

  4. You are going to be so sick of Let it Go by the end of that party...
That's cool you want to write stuff your kids would enjoy reading.

  5. So glad you decided to join us for WUW, Kristin! Your comment about vomiting baseballs totally cracked me up. Around here, it's distance running events, but fortunately I don't have to attend too many, especially since that involves a lot of sitting around waiting.

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen Frozen yet, but it looks cute and sounds like a fun birthday party theme. Good luck with the party planning, all those baseball games, and working on your dystopian WIP! :)

  6. That sounds like the perfect Mother's Day gift. In fact, it sounds like a great gift for any occasion! Mop the floors and give me reading time and I'm happy!

  7. You did win out for Mother's Day. Nice! "...out the ying yang..." Haha! I totally understand. To sum it up: all four of my kids play or have played numerous sports for multiple travel/pull-Mom's-hair-out teams. And yeah, they all play ice hockey, too.

  8. My brother is still big into baseball and he is going to be 53! He started when he was like 6 or something. I think it is nice that you attend the baseball outings even if you are ready to scream(the secret is to have some chocolate) because my brother never had our parents watch him play. They were so old school and my mom is German so they never thought of attending his games. I am certain he wished that they would have but they never really thought about it. Great Mother's day gift now you must plot for them to do that every weekend:)

  9. I can't wait to see what you do w/a Frozen theme! You do parties so, so good. And can I borrow your boys to get a clean floor? ;) It's done nothing but rain the last two days and we just keep tracking it in... Joy.

  10. Sounds like a great Mother's Day--that's what I always want too. :) A Frozen party sounds like fun--we just went to one a couple weeks ago for my son's friends. Lots of great things you can do with food.
I love that you're writing what your kids want to read--kids can be so great for inspiration!

  11. My boys tired of baseball by age twelve and I was so happy! They all took a liking to football, and other than having to sit and watch games in the freezing cold, it's great because it's only once a week. I had a friend tell me she tried to get her kids to do basketball only. Never get sunburn or frostbite in a gym.

I have Killing Ruby Rose on my kindle...moving through my list slowly but surely. Just finished Medeia's Snip, snip Revenge. Also excellent.

What a sweet Mother's Day gift!! I might try that next year :)

And a Frozen party sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck putting it together!

  13. I'm adding Killing Ruby Rose to my kindle RIGHT NOW! It sounds amazing. I'm sad I missed WUW this week. It might be a while before I get in the habit of it.

  15. You sound soooo busy! I'm glad my son was only into soccer which was only two nights a week plus Sundays. And not that you don't have enough to do right now, but I nominated you for a Liebster Award. I don't know if you are familiar with it or not, but the details are at http://lorilmaclaughlin.com/2014/05/17/the-liebster-award. Accepting the award is completely optional, but I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy reading your posts. :)

  16. Children can definitely inspire. Perhaps you can utlize those baseball games to do some outlining or even a few quick rewrites for your upcoming book:)
