May IWSG: My Muse

I have this muse, she's called Inspiration.

Source
We all know her. She's the one who keeps us up late at night and who bombards our dreams and sneaks in at the most inopportune times. Rarely does she strike when she's supposed to, like when I'm sitting at my laptop trying to rewrite the beginning of a story.

No, instead, she likes to visit when it is totally, utterly, and completely inconvenient. Perhaps when I'm taking a shower, driving in the car, or cleaning the house. My poor house doesn't stand a chance against Inspiration! She's very persuasive and demands that I stop whatever I'm doing and focus on exactly what she needs to say. I swear I must look like a deranged person when she finally visits me.

Ah well, I guess I'd rather have her visit me than her annoying cousin Writer's Block. Or her ugly step-child Doubt.

Yep, I think I'll take Inspiration any day.

How about you? Is your Inspiration this demanding?

**This post was brought to you by my group posting for the IWSG! A big thank you to ninja captain, Alex Cavanaugh for organizing this monthly blog hop where we post our fears, insecurities, and triumphs, and offer support to those who need it. If interested, you can join HERE.

Have a great one!

  1. Aw, I'm sure your house doesn't stand a chance against the 'inconvenient muse'. Do you get frustrated with your life (and family) because of it, sometimes? I mean, you love your life (family, kiddos...) like I do. But doesn't it get like 'LEAVE ME ALONE, ALREADY!' or 'JUST A HALF HOUR ALONE TO MEET WITH MY MUSE. SHE'S BEEN CALLING MY NAME FOR THREE DAYS!' lol

  2. It's funny how you'll have the best ideas when you're far away from a computer. I've scribbled ideas on receipts and napkins before!

  3. Our muses do know how to pop in at the wrong moments. Mine likes to chat my ear off when I'm trying to sleep.

  4. My muse does the same thing, which is why I always keep a notepad or digital voice recorder around with me to take notes. In fact, I almost always have a usb stick with my chapters in my pocket so I can sit down in front of any computer with with Word and work on my story. Whatever works.

  5. Enjoy her when she visits! Clean house is overrated anyway.

  6. My inspiration comes and goes, but since I keep so much stuff logged in my brain, her visits are never inconvenient. Well, not inconvenient for me anyways. It might be for the person who was talking to me and I just zoned out on. But hey, maybe they won't notice...

  7. Oh this is a great way to talk about the issues people have when writing or doing anything creative. I love this muse and all must go by the wayside when she comes into the forefront

  8. So true! I find I get my best ideas when I'm seemingly doing nothing--lying in bed or driving or taking a shower. It's almost never at the moment I need them. :)

  9. I try to hold on to the thought until it's time to write. Sometimes it works...

  10. Inspiration can be VERY demanding! I keep a notebook close by at all times (or type notes into my phone) so I can jot down stuff as I think of it and appease her. Sometimes I can't write just then, but it's nice to capture ideas as soon as they appear!

  11. Sure is. I see it all day long. I use my cell phone to record thoughts. I know I'll forget many of them by the time I get home.

  12. omg yesss....this is my life. inspiration always hits at the worst times. Without fail. Lately I'll take anything I can get though, even going so far as to just write in the middle of the night b/c I'm having a tough time of it! " Ah well, I guess I'd rather have her visit me than her annoying cousin Writer's Block. Or her ugly step-child Doubt." hahaha yes!
