This month I'm participating in the A to Z blogging challenge and posting every day in April (except Sundays) with the corresponding letter of the day. The theme I chose for this year is 26 Days of Gratitude. I'll be posting about people, places, things, and events in my life I'm grateful for. Today is the letter...
Can I just tell you how thankful I am that there is something called make-up in this world. Do I use it everyday? No. But I'm glad it's there when I do need it.
Funny thing happened recently. It was one of "those days". My hair was pulled back in a ponytail and I had chosen not to bother with make-up. I took my son to piano and his piano teacher looked at me and said, "Today's a no make-up day?" I was so surprised that I made some half-witted response like, "Huh?" To which he said, "I can tell you're not wearing make-up. You look SO different. I mean, really different."
Whoa.
There are some women who don't leave the house without it. There are a few in my family like that. But not me. Clearly not me.
All you women out there, do you wear make-up on a daily basis? Have you ever had someone comment on your lack of make-up?
I used to wear make-up every day for work, and when I'd have a day at home without it, I always felt like my looks were lacking in some way. Over the years, I've gravitated toward almost never wearing it and feel much more comfortable with how I look every day. I look like myself without it, and when I do use some (which pretty much amounts to mascara and tinted lip balm, lol), I feel enhanced. But never naked without it anymore, thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to feel comfortable in your own skin!
DeleteI don't do a full face, but I always leave the house with lipstick or lip gloss on. This can be applied with out a lot of time or a mirror. I wonder if he meant good different or bad.

My guess would be bad...LOL. Or maybe I looked younger....or older. Who knows?
DeleteMy wife wears light makeup, but she looks just as beautiful without it.
ReplyDeleteAww, that's sweet. Spoken like a good husband!
DeleteI hardly ever wear makeup. Moisturizer and lip gloss is about it.

Yikes! Don't people know they shouldn't comment on the lac of make-up?? LOL. I don't wear it every day, either, or really most days! I wear it when I get dressed up, and then I love how it looks. I still sometimes feel like a little girl playing dress-up :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought! Don't men know there are certain things they shouldn't comment on? Weight, hair, lack of make-up...the list goes on...LOL.
DeleteHeh, I don't often wear make-up, mostly because I exercise midday, and then I'd either have to reapply or just go with messed-up smudged stuff. But if I'm heading out on a date with the hubby, then I get all glammed up. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not so much a makeup girl. It's probably partially because I have 4 older brothers, but my husband also insists he likes me more without it. *shrugs* Of course, he always compliments how nice I look when I do use it, so I don't know what to think. Mixed messages, eh?

I've never worn make-up. I've always just preferred the natural look. I can't believe he commented on your not wearing it. How rude!
ReplyDeleteI guess I do wear make-up often...but not every time I go out. Its always the natural look even if its a big event. On other days, I really only need mascara to try and hide my usual sleepiness lol
ReplyDeleteHey Kristen! I'm returning your visit from the a-z blog. You are right! We have a lot in common...I only wear makeup about 1/3 of the time. But I am very grateful it exists.
ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower, by the way.
ReplyDeleteI generally don't leave the house without makeup on--although you can bet if I do, I'll run into someone I haven't seen in 10 years!
ReplyDeleteI suppose it depends on mood and occasion for me to wear make up.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't wear makeup everyday. In fact, today is a day I'm going without. No one has ever commented on my lack, probably because when I do wear it, I don't wear much.
ReplyDeleteI think that the trick is to be made up to appear natural. You should wonder whether the person is wearing make up or not. Some women "wear the natural look" very well... you can't tell...
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you via the A to Z challenge.

I miss make-up, especially eye shadow, sometimes. Because of very sensitive skin and such, I've been without for many years. When I did use the stuff, I did it sparingly and occasionally so it was always like playing dress up. :-)
