Y is for Young Love

This month I am participating in the A to Z blogging challenge and posting every day in April (except Sundays) with the corresponding letter of the day. The theme I chose for this year is 26 Days of Gratitude. I'll be posting about people, places, things, and events in my life I'm grateful for. Today is the letter...

I'm thankful for young love.

There's something almost magical when you fall in love for the first time. Swiftly beating hearts, first kisses, nervous anticipation and excitement every time you see each other, and tender declarations of love.

I recently had a friend's fifteen-year-old daughter stay with me. She reminds me so much of myself at that age, which is fun to see since I don't have any daughters of my own. Slightly boy crazy with a crush on a cute boy, she was full of giddy excitement. I loved being in her confidence as she talked about this boy and the next time they would see each other (there is a little distance between them).

Talking with her, I realized how fun it is to be in love for the first time (not that she's in love right now, but someday she will be). What a great feeling it is to fall in love, to have someone love you back, and want to spend the rest of their life with you.

I'm also thankful that my own "young love" wasn't a brief, fleeting moment, but is one that will last a lifetime and continue on forever.

What do you think about young love? Have you met "the one" yet?

  1. I only fell in love once. And I'm still with her and in love today.

  2. I met my hubby at 16, but I'd already had a few crushes by then, and several boys my hubby tells me were hoping they'd win me. I write YA because I remember so vividly what it was like and how amazing and HUGE it all seemed.

    1. Yes!! It is an amazing feeling. I think that's why I enjoy writing romance, or stories with romantic elements, because I too remember vividly those thoughts and feelings.

  3. I did meet "the one" and we had 11 happy years together before he passed away. Love is the most wonderful feeling there is.

  4. I met my husband at 15, and kept a diary, knowing how special it was. That diary is one of my most precious possessions now.

    1. That is so cool!! I think I journaled about every other guy I ever dated until I met my husband. Then I wanted to spend every waking moment with him and forgot to write about it. What a wonderful treasure you'll have forever!

  5. It's fun to listen to my soon-to-be 13-year-old niece discuss boys. She's got one interesting crush.

I've never been in love... (Which is why talk of love tends to make me grouchy. I apologize in advance for any snide remarks made around, say, Valentine's Day.)

  8. As a middle grade/young adult author, I get to experience that feeling over and over through my characters! There is nothing quite like it.

  9. Your post made me think about an old song called "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond.
It really encapsulates the concept of young love!

  10. I found him, or so I thought. In the aftermath of a love gone terribly wrong, it's hard to say. But I am grateful that I had all the fun butterfly feelings, and it wasn't even a young love. Plus, my life isn't over yet. I think we need to allow ourselves to be playful and childlike, especially when in love. You can have young love at any age, right? And you and your husband can keep falling in love. I'm getting sappy. Look what you started. Smiles.
