My Writing Space!
Today on Kristin's blog, I'm revealing my mini-library / writing space! Thank you, Kristin, for having me here!
When I write, I hide away in my little space where I can focus on my stories without a lot of distractions... other than the antics of the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks out the window.
This has to be the cleanest my desk has been in years, which is a good thing since I work better in an uncluttered space. Knowing what a good interior designer Kristin is, I'm sure she could give me some decorating tips. I'm obviously obsessed with partial to The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. I tend to surround myself with things that inspire me.
My writing space used to be a small bedroom, until I had the good fortune to walk into a Borders bookstore when they were going out of business and discovered they were selling their six-foot bookshelves for a ridiculously cheap price. Six of them found their way to my house, and my mini-library was born.
As you can see, bookshelves can hold many things — like toys! My Lego Hobbit sets are starting to take over...
This is my kids' side of the room. It used to be a closet, but we had the closet doors and wall taken out to expand the space a bit more. I think they have more books than I do. That's my old fried computer on the floor. I'm trying to resurrect it with a new hard drive. It's an ongoing project.
The most important thing about my space is that it has good vibes. I can go in there and relax and lose myself in my stories. What more could a writer ask for?

Lori L. MacLaughlin traces her love of fantasy adventure to Tolkien and Terry Brooks, finding The Lord of the Rings and The Sword of Shannara particularly inspirational. She's been writing stories in her head since she was old enough to run wild through the forests on the farm on which she grew up.
She has been many things over the years – tree climber, dairy farmer, clothing salesperson, kids' shoe fitter, retail manager, medical transcriptionist, journalist, private pilot, traveler, wife and mother, Red Sox and New York Giants fan, muscle car enthusiast and NASCAR fan, and a lover of all things Scottish and Irish.
When she's not writing (or working), she can be found curled up somewhere dreaming up more story ideas, taking long walks in the countryside, or spending time with her kids. She lives with her family in northern Vermont.
