I is for Ice Cream Shoppe and Inspiration

When we moved to this small town a little over a year ago, one of our highlights became visiting the ice cream shoppe. Own and run by an older, retired couple, the ice cream shoppe is a great place to get a cool treat. While the selection is small, it has exactly what you'd hope to find in a small town ice cream place--yummy ice cream, toppings, and friendly owners who make you feel as though you've known them a lifetime.

The Lighthouse Ice Cream Shoppe houses great memories for my family. Memories of sitting on the bench outside the shop eating drippy cones and watching the cars pass by as day fades into night. Good times.

Inspiration.

Where would I be without it? I certainly wouldn't have ever finished my first novel, and I wouldn't have been "inspired" to write two more. My inspiration comes in many forms, but often it comes during the most inconvenient times like while I'm showering or driving the car (the times when I DON'T have access to a pad of paper and a pen).

Inspiration for me comes in the form of an answer to a prayer, or through a song, or even through the advice of a friend. It may even come while I'm eating an ice cream cone. :) Now that would be cool--in more ways than one!

Do you have a place you like to get ice cream? Does it house great memories? How do you receive inspiration?

  2. My first job was in an ice cream parlor. I have a voice app on my phone that is supposed to help with those

    1. Oooh, that sounds like a fun job! I don't think I want to take my phone with me into the shower...LOL. But I should use that voice app more, thanks for the thought!

  3. Aw, that ice cream shop sounds like a sweet place...pun intended! ;)

Like you, my inspiration comes in various ways, and often at the most inconvenient times. But hey, inconvenient inspiration is always better than no inspiration, yeah?

    1. For sure! I'd much rather have inspiration while I'm dripping wet than none at all! :)

  4. Gosh I love ice cream... I can't really have much of it nowadays, as dairy doesn't seem to agree very well with me. But I still have it now and then - mostly when I go to a movie. :)

I would love to visit this shop!

    1. Yeah, as much as I love it, I too have to take it easy on the dairy. Darn that "getting older" thing. Life was simpler when I was a kid! :)

You just revealed my Kyrptonite! :)

This is such a cool community, isn't it? In a way we all know each other. We writers are telekinetic like that. :)

    1. Haha! Your Kryptonite--too funny! Ice cream is great, but if you want to know my "true" Kryptonite, you have to check out my "D" post. :)

  8. Maybe you can download an app that will let you record your thoughts when you can't get to a pen? Wouldn't recommend using it in the shower though.
I can't even remember the last time I went to an ice cream shop.

  9. We have a cute little parlor a couple blocks away. I don't eat a lot of ice cream myself (lactose intolerance). But seeing my daughter's face covered in the sticky stuff does hit a sweet spot. :)

  10. I had an icecream shop I actually worked at in West Yellowstone. I can't look at a wafflecone without thinking of that job, and the amazing summer I had, hanging out with my buddies between semesters and living it up. Such a great time!

For inspiration, I find it in everything--the little details of a moment, a snatch of history, the color of a bug, the architecture of a building, the tail of a dream... It's definitely not one area I'm lacking in. I just wish I had time to chronicle it all. =)

  11. I enjoy making ice cream, but there's no specific place I like to go to get it. Grocery bought, mostly.

  12. Whitey's ice cream! Only available in Southeast Iowa. We buy five cartons each time we make it out there. http://bellesbazaar-heather.blogspot.com/2014/04/h-is-for-handsome-to-z-challenge-blake.html
